Life Insurance, Critical Illness Cover and Income Protection for people with Metabolic Syndrome
Example Occupations: Residential, commercial and industrial.
Possible Risks: Working at heights, accidental injury
Occupational Duties: Construction, fitting, maintaining and repairing roofs.
Life Insurance for roofers who work below 40 feet can usually be offered at normal terms with most insurers. If the normal height worked at is over 40 feet then many insurance companies will increase the cost of cover to cover the additional risk. There are currently some insurance providers however who will offer normal terms for roofers regardless of the height at which they work.
Critical Illness Cover
Critical Illness Insurance for roofers is available at normal terms for most people who generally work below 40 feet. Whilst many insurance companies will increase the premiums for cover if normal working heights are above 40 feet, there are at present companies who will offer normal terms regardless of the height worked at.
Roofers Income Protection is normally available with an ‘own occupation’ definition with the right insurers. This means that if you are unable to work as a roofer due to significant illness or injury then your policy will pay a claim. Other policies that offer definitions such as ‘suited occupation’ or ‘any occupation’ are far more difficult to secure claims with and we would recommend that you purchase ‘own occupation’ cover wherever possible.
Income Protection for roofers will come with a deferment period of 4 weeks, 8 weeks, 13 weeks, 26 weeks or 52 weeks. This is the amount of time that you will need to wait from the start of you being unable to work, to the time that your claim is paid to you.
Where Income Protection is not suitable for your individual circumstances you may wish to consider Accident, Sickness and Unemployment Cover. This policy provides a short-term income replacement of 12 to 24 months, in the event that you are unable to work due to illness, disability or involuntary redundancy. You may wish to opt for the Accident, Sickness and Unemployment Cover if you have a medical condition that makes you ineligible for Income Protection or increases the premium so that the cover is no longer affordable.
