Tetralogy of Fallot & Life InsuranceWe understand that receiving a diagnosis of Tetralogy of Fallot can be a worrying time. Often diagnosed in babies, this condition is serious and typically results in corrective surgery whilst young.

Our advisers are on hand to help find the best insurer to offer you life insurance.

  • When were you diagnosed with Tetralogy of Fallot?
  • When did you have surgery to correct this?
  • What treatment or medication do you use?
  • Do you experience any ongoing complications?
  • Do you experience fatigue?

Life insurance for people who have been diagnosed with Tetralogy of Fallot will be dependent upon whether total corrective heart surgery has been performed and if there is any resultant heart enlargement.

Where surgery has been conducted and the heart is considered to be quite ‘normal’ it is possible that some insurers may accept your application for life insurance at non-standard terms. This usually means that the insurer will increase your premiums above the basic pricing for the life insurance.

If surgery has not been performed or there is evidence of heart enlargement it is quite likely that the insurer will increase the premiums more. You might even find that some insurers decline your application for life insurance. This is where our years of experience really stand out in getting you the cover that you need.

Our advisers have access to many insurers on the standard and specialist market, so we can find an insurer that is going to suit your needs.

Critical illness cover pays out a cash lump sum of money, if you are diagnosed with a medical condition that is listed in the insurer’s claims set e.g. cancer, heart attack, stroke.

Critical illness cover for people living with Fallots Tetralogy may be available if total corrective surgery has been performed, and you have no lasting symptoms. It will be essential to pick an insurer that can specifically support your application, our advisers will research the insurance market to find the right one for you.

Income protection pays you a replacement of your monthly income, if you are unable to work due to ill health.

Income protection for people that have been diagnosed with Tetralogy of Fallot may be available with a number of select providers. This will be highly dependent upon whether total corrective surgery has been successfully completed.

Where income protection is available it will almost certainly be offered at non-standard terms. This is most likely to be an increase to the policy premiums.

If you are declined Income Protection cover or find that the policy terms on offer are not to your liking it is worthwhile considering Accident, Sickness and Unemployment Cover. Accident, Sickness and Unemployment Cover provides short-term income replacement in the event that you are unable to work due to disability, injury or involuntary redundancy. The cover is not medically underwritten at the point of application which means that your policy can be accepted without consideration of your medical history.

Whilst this is the case you must be prepared that should you place a claim on the policy existing conditions are often excluded from acceptable claims. This means that should you be unable to work due to complications arising from the Fallots Tetralogy then your claim will not be approved.
