Life Insurance for people with Hughes syndrome can be available with a number of insurance providers.

This will be dependant upon if the condition has led to any secondary illnesses e.g. lupus, or if there have been any blood clots within the last few years. If there has, don’t worry, it may just be that more specialist insurers are required.

It is likely that the cost of life insurance, will be a bit higher than the standard premium. The main thing is to find the insurer that is going to offer you the best terms, based upon what you need.

Critical illness cover pays out a cash lump sum of money, if you are diagnosed with a medical condition that is listed in the insurer’s claims set e.g. cancer, heart attack, stroke.

Critical illness cover for people with Hughes syndrome may be available. This is most likely if the condition has caused no blood clots or secondary illnesses, in the last few years. The insurance is likely to only be available with specific insurers and it is essential that in-depth research is done for you, to make sure that you access the best price for the cover.

Income protection pays you a replacement of your monthly income, if you are unable to work due to ill health.

Income protection applications for people with Hughes syndrome, will need to be placed with a specialist insurer. It will be important to have a good think about the options that you will be presented with. You might be offered income protection with an exclusion for claims relating to the Hughes Syndrome, and/or a premium increase.

Where income protection is declined, or the terms on offer don’t feel right to you, it may be worthwhile considering Accident,Sickness and Unemployment cover instead.

An Accident, Sickness and Unemployment policy can provide 12 to 24 months of income protection should you be unable to work due to disability, serious injury or involuntary redundancy.

This type of policy is not medically underwritten at the application stage meaning that Hughes syndrome will have no bearing on the acceptance terms. However any claim that you place will exclude inability to work due to the pre-existing condition.
