Do you have Crohn's disease? Ulcerative colitis? IBS? Diverticulitis? When you have a digestive condition, it is possible that the insurer may ask you a few questions about your health, to see if they can offer you the cover you want.

Some common questions you could be asked include:

  • What is the name of your condition?
  • When were you diagnosed with the condition?
  • What are your symptoms?
  • Have you had any surgery for the condition?
  • What medications do you take?
  • Does it affect your ability to work?

Life Insurance - widely available, if you have had recent surgery or change in medication, then you may need to be selective as to which insurer you approach for the cover.

Critical Illness Cover - widely available, if your symptoms are severe or strong medications are in use, then you may need to look at specialist insurance policies.

Income Protection - often available, depending upon the condition that you have and the medications that are in use, you may have to look at specific insurers who can consider your application.

Private Medical Insurance - generally available, most policies will exclude claims related to your condition for at least a couple of years.
