Life Insurance, Critical Illness Cover and Income Protection for people with Metabolic Syndrome
- Example Occupations: Residential, commercial and industrial
- Possible Risks: Working at heights, equipment safety, serious injury
- Occupational Duties: Erection of safety framework to support people, machinery and equipment at significant heights
Life Insurance for scaffolders who operate below 40 feet can often be secured at normal terms with most providers. Where heights higher than this are traversed the application may need to be placed with a specific insurance provider who will consider the cover. At present there are providers who can offer normal terms for scaffolders regardless of the height that they work. If you are required to work abroad the insurer will take the locations that you work into consideration when assessing your Life Insurance application.
Critical Illness Cover
When you apply for Critical Illness Insurance, scaffolding will need to be detailed to the insurer in regards to the height that you work at and the amount of time spent on the scaffold. For those who work at 40 feet or below many insurers will consider Critical Illness Cover at standard rates. For heights above this you may need to approach a more specialised insurer with your application, however cover may still be available at normal terms.
Scaffolders Income Protection can be secured with an own occupation definition if you approach the correct insurer for your needs. This means that if you are unable to work as a scaffolder due to significant illness or injury then your policy will pay a claim. Other definitions of cover such as suited occupation or any occupation are far more difficult to secure claims with and we would recommend that you purchase own occupation cover wherever possible.
Income Protection for scaffolders will come with a deferment period of 4 weeks, 8 weeks, 13 weeks, 26 weeks or 52 weeks. This is the amount of time that you will need to wait from the start of you being unable to work, to the time that your claim is paid to you. The decision of the deferment period of the policy you apply for should take into account any employment benefits you have, your savings and budget for the cover that you need.
Where Income Protection is not suitable for your individual circumstances you may wish to consider Accident, Sickness and Unemployment Cover. This policy provides a short-term income replacement of 12 to 24 months, in the event that you are unable to work due to illness, disability or involuntary redundancy. You may wish to opt for the Accident, Sickness and Unemployment Cover if you have a medical condition that makes you ineligible for Income Protection or increases the premium so that the cover is no longer affordable.
Scaffolders construct climbable frames that support people, machinery and equipment to develop, restore or renovate building structures. Work is carried out at significant heights and there is an inherent need for heightened awareness to ensure the safety of those on the scaffold and within the general vicinity.
