Life Insurance for people who have been diagnosed with tetralogy of fallot will be dependent upon whether total corrective heart surgery has been performed and if there is any resultant heart enlargement. Where surgery has been conducted and the heart is relatively normal it is possible that some insurers may accept your application for Life Insurance with small premium loadings. If surgery has not been performed or there is evidence of heart enlargement any policy that you are offered will probably come with high premium loadings, or your application may be declined altogether.
Life Insurance, Critical Illness Cover and Income Protection for people who have had Tetralogy of Fallot
Also Known as: Fallot’s tetralogy
Linked with: Pulmonary stenosis, ventricular septal defect (VSD), over-riding aorta, hypertrophy, heart murmur, abnormal heart rhythm, 22q11 deletion, Down’s Syndrome, infective endocarditis
Possible Symptoms: Hypercyanotic attacks (spells), blue colour to skin, loss of consciousness
Critical Illness Cover for those with fallots tetralogy can be available if total corrective surgery has been performed, but you will need to approach a specialist provider who will consider you for cover. If your application is accepted, this is not guaranteed, it is likely that your policy premiums will be increased to offset the added risk of your health.
Income Protection for people with tetralogy of fallot may be available with a number of select providers but this will be highly dependent upon whether total corrective surgery has been successfully completed. Where Income Protection is available it will almost certainly come with increased premiums due to the higher risk of you claiming on the policy due to your health.
If you are declined Income Protection cover or find that the policy terms on offer are not to your liking it is worthwhile considering Accident, Sickness and Unemployment Cover. Accident, Sickness and Unemployment Cover provides short-term income replacement in the event that you are unable to work due to disability, injury or involuntary redundancy. The cover is not medically underwritten at the point of application which means that your policy can be accepted without consideration of your medical history. Whilst this is the case you must be prepared that should you place a claim on the policy existing conditions are often excluded from acceptable claims. This means that should you be unable to work due to complications arising from the fallots tetralogy then your claim will not be approved.
