Life Insurance, Critical Illness Cover and Income Protection for people with Ménière's Disease
Also known as: Endolymphatic hydrops
Linked with: Tinnitus, vertigo, stress, depression, anxiety
Possible symptoms: Loss of balance, loss of hearing, dizziness, nausea
Life Insurance for people with Ménière’s disease can often be available at normal terms provided that symptoms are not severe and there are no secondary illnesses contributing to your health. If there are any contributory conditions diagnosed then the insurer may wish to speak with your GP to get a clear picture of your health before they are able to offer cover.
Critical Illness Cover
Critical Illness Cover for those with Ménière’s disease will typically be accepted at special terms, in which a deafness exclusion is applied to the policy.
Income Protection for people with Ménière’s disease may be available at normal terms where the condition presents few symptoms and those that do occur are of a low severity. If the condition causes significant symptoms or has caused time off work then the insurer may place an exclusion on the policy for any claim related to Ménière’s disease or hearing/balance problems. Where the condition is severe it is possible that application for Income Protection may be declined.
If the terms provided for Income Protection do not meet your requirements then you should consider the alternative of an Accident, Sickness and Unemployment policy. An Accident, Sickness and Unemployment policy will pay a short-term monthly income replacement if you are unable to work due to disability, long-term illness or involuntary redundancy. Applications for this type of policy are not medically underwritten which will mean that your diagnosis of Ménière’s disease will not impact upon the acceptance terms. However any claim that you place will be rejected if you are unable to work due to circumstances directly related to the Ménière’s disease.
