Legal & General have recently announced developments to their Income Protection policy following their review of the market and client feedback.
The L&G Income Protection policy now comes with an income guarantee that means that if your salary decreases after you purchase the policy, they will still honour the original monthly benefit purchased. This is set to a maximum benefit of £1,500 per month or the benefit detailed on the policy documents; the lower of which will be paid.
Income Protection Insurance is also now offered with an own occupation definition for all clients accepted for the policy; excluding housepersons. This means that if you make a claim on the Income Protection policy you will be assessed on your ability to the job you actually do, rather than your ability to work in another profession.
Legal & General have also removed the deduction of the value of State Benefits from any claim that is made. This means that you can claim both State Benefits and your full policy benefit at the same time; provided that your salary has not decreased since the time of policy purchase.
Depending upon your health some Income Protection policies are accepted with certain exclusions on potential claims. Legal & General now offer premium discounts to clients who have had a mental health or spine exclusion placed on their policy.
Legal & General's new standard for Income Protection place them in a competitive position within the marketplace and the policy should be considered as a strong contender for cover.
