Recent developments within the insurance industry may impact upon insurance applications for those in the armed forces, who may be sent on humanitarian missions.

Some insurance providers are now concerned that there may be additional risk to those in the armed forces travelling abroad on humanitarian issues, due to the current Ebola crisis.

Many insurers place specific focus on armed forces personnel who are scheduled for active deployment with primary concerns being when and how long the duration of deployment is to be done, location and duties to be undertaken. Some insurers are now interested in whether or not a member of the armed forces looking for Life Insurance or Critical Illness Cover is due to go abroad as humanitarian aid. As humanitarian aid is being focused to areas hit with the Ebola crisis, some insurance providers are worried that there is now a heightened risk of serious illness and/or death.

Whilst not all insurance providers have taken this view it is important to inform your company/broker if you are due on any humanitarian mission as it could impact upon your terms. If you are working with a broker it is worth informing them as there are insurance companies who will not increase your premiums and so you would likely be better applying to them.

Our insurance advisers regularly place cover for armed forces personnel and we will happily review your insurance needs, helping to choose the right insurance provider for your circumstances. Please feel free to call us on 0800 567 7450.
