DubaiDubai is a popular holiday destination with it’s warm climate, extensive beaches and thriving business scene.

Most life insurers will be fine if you are going to Dubai for a holiday, but our advisers will check these things with you to make sure:

  • When are you travelling to Dubai?
  • Are you going to Dubai for work or a holiday?
  • How long will you be staying in Dubai?

For holidays of less than 30 days to Dubai, life insurance will most likely be offered at normal terms.

If you are spending a lot of time in Dubai it will be important to choose a life insurer that is able to accept your travel. Insurers will generally want to check if there’s any extra risk with you being in Dubai so much and also confirm your residency.

If you are in a position where you work in Dubai for quite a few months of the year, it will be key to find the right insurer for you, to try and avoid premium increases.

Our advisers are here to search the market for you, so you don’t have to.

British citizens who have moved abroad can often still access life insurance and critical illness cover in the UK. There are specific rules that you must follow to be eligible for new life insurance and critical illness policies, and we are here to strip out the jargon and get you the cover that you need.

Critical illness cover pays out a cash lump sum of money, if you are diagnosed with a medical condition that is listed in the insurer’s claims set e.g. cancer, heart attack, stroke.

When you travel to Dubai, critical illness cover applications may need to detail how long you have spent in the country in the last few years and any trips you intend to take in the next two years. For many people a holiday to Dubai should cause any difficulty in arranging the cover, with your critical illness policy typically offered at normal terms.

If you travel to Dubai regularly for work related purposes, it is possible that the insurer may ask specific details about the industry that you work in and your specific working tasks whilst there. Again, it is likely that you will be offered critical illness cover at standard terms, but if your work is of a particularly hazard nature it is possible that the policy may be offered at special terms.

Income protection pays you a replacement of your monthly income, if you are unable to work due to ill health.

Income protection cover for people travelling to Dubai should be available at normal terms with most insurance providers. Extensive travel of more than six months may result in you needing to be selective as to which insurer that you approach for income protection, to be able to set the policy up.

When you apply for income protection your policy will be set up on a definition of own occupation, suited occupation or any occupation. You ideally want to arrange a policy on an own occupation basis as this will give you the strongest claims definition for income protection.
