When you apply for Life Insurance you need to detail your pre-existing medical history to the insurer for them to fully assess your application. For someone with metabolic syndrome this will involve detailing the type of diabetes that you have, your high blood pressure and BMI. The insurer will want to know how severe your symptoms are, the medications that are in use, your waist circumference and possibly your dress/trouser size. You will also need to detail any other medical conditions that you have and you may find that the insurer asks to speak with your GP to confirm your health. This should cause you no concern and is arranged at the insurers expense.
There are some specialist policies that are able to offer Critical Illness insurance to those who are diabetic. You should be fully aware with these policies that they often place a number of exclusions on the policy claims set due to the diabetes. You should make sure that you familiarise yourself with exactly what you are and are not covered for when arranging this cover.
Please use the links below to establish the range of insurance products that are available for you to apply for with your medical diagnosis.
When you apply for Income Protection and have metabolic syndrome you should be prepared that the insurer will exclude any claim relating to your diabetes at least. Depending upon the severity of the condition there is the potential that you will be declined Income Protection cover. If you are declined Income Protection it is possible to protect your income using an Accident and Sickness insurance policy instead. These policies are not medically underwritten so you will be accepted for the cover regardless of having metabolic syndrome, however any claim that you place will exclude any pre-existing medical conditions that you have.
