Life Insurance for those who have had Hirschsprung's disease and are fully recovered from the condition can be available at normal terms. It is likely that the insurer that you approach for Life Insurance will want to see a report from your GP to get a clear picture as to your current health, time since surgery and any medications that are in use. If there are any lasting complications from the condition then it is possible that the insurer may place a premium loading on the policy. Where lasting symptoms of Hirschsprung's disease are quite severe the insurer may choose to postpone cover until the symptoms have eased or choose to decline the application for Life Insurance.
Critical Illness Cover for people who have had Hirschsprung's disease may also be available at normal terms provided that you have fully recovered from the condition and there are no significant lasting symptoms present. Again the insurance provider will probably want to see a report from your doctor to ascertain the time since you had surgery, the extent of the surgery required, any medications that are in use and your overall health at this time. For those who have some lasting symptoms following surgical treatment the insurer may place a premium loading on the Critical Illness Cover. Where symptoms are severe the insurer may opt to postpone or decline the application.
Income Protection for those who have had Hirschsprung's disease will need to detail the time since you had surgery, medications that are in use, your current state of health and if the condition has caused you to have any time off work. Where the condition no longer presents any symptoms or impacts upon lifestyle it is possible that normal terms may be available. For those with long lasting complications from the condition the insurance provider may choose to increase the policy premium, postpone or decline the application for Income Protection.
If you find that the terms for Income Protection do not meet your requirements it may be worthwhile considering Accident, Sickness and Unemployment cover. Accident, Sickness and Unemployment cover offers short-term income protection placement over a period of between 12 and 24 months if you are unable to work due to disability, long term illness or involuntary redundancy. The policy is not medically underwritten which means that your medical history will have no impact upon the acceptance terms of cover. However you must be fully aware that any claim that you place on the policy will exclude pre-existing conditions.
Some potential problems experienced by individuals who have Hirschsprung's disease include:
