Getting Life Insurance when you have a heart problem will largely depend on the severity of the condition. At the point of application you will need to provide the Insurer with full details of your condition, the medication that you take and if there are any ongoing symptoms.
For mild and well controlled heart conditions (such as mild arrhythmia and innocent heart murmurs applications can often be underwritten at standard terms (no price increase). For more severe heart conditions (such as heart attacks and cardiomyopathy) Insurers are likely to offer an increased premium and request a report from your GP before offering cover. The final premiums will depend on the severity of the condition and the information your GP provides. Please see the links below to see further information about how your heart condition could affect your Life Insurance application.
As with Life Insurance, if you have a mild heart condition then you should be able to get Critical Illness Cover without too much difficulty and this could potentially be offered at standard terms as long as there are no other health concerns. More severe heart conditions however such as cardiomyopathy and heart attacks can make sourcing Critical Illness Cover much more difficult and in a lot of circumstances not available. We would always suggest speaking to an adviser to see if a policy of this nature can be offered for you. Please use the links below to see more detail regarding your health condition and Critical Illness Cover.
As with both Life and Critical Illness Insurance, Income Protection for individuals with mild heart conditions is possible. This will depend largely on the type of condition. Mild conditions could be covered with little issue but more severe conditions can be difficult to arrange insurance for. If an Income Protection policy can be sourced for somebody with a severe heart problem it will either come with an exclusion on the condition and/or an increased premium. We would always suggest speaking to an adviser to see if a policy of this nature can be offered for you. Heart conditions affect many people and come in a range of severities from mild heart arrhythmia to severe heart attacks. Heart conditions are classified by any event or illness that causes the heart to stop functioning for a time or over a long period, at what should be a normal state. Heart conditions can be both hereditary or first generation illnesses, for the most part they are lifelong conditions that can be controlled effectively through medication and changes in lifestyle.
